Paywall

How the paywall works

Learn how the paywall works and activates it in the virtualCMS panel

Virtualcms offers the ability to restrict access to articles only for registered users or only for some users who have made a payment to a subscription (via the virtualnewspaper).

This mechanism is possible by activating the paywall in a section; in this way, every published article can't be read by users who don't have the necessary requirements.

The necessary requirements change depending on the type of paywall you have decided to set up through the VirtualNewspaper: for example, some paywall prevent the read of the articles by unregistered users, or other paywall prevent the read the articles to users who have not purchased a subscription through our Virtualnewspaper.

You can activate the paywall by checking the mark in the affected section, and selecting the type of paywall you want to activate (among those previously set on the VirtualNewspaper), as seen in the screenshot:

In the moment that you activated paywall in the section (as shown above), each published article will have a box that blocks reading for users who don't have the requirements to access it.

Below is an example of how a paywall box may appear:

From the Settings module, you can select the types of content to exclude from the paywall and, in addition, you can select the items to exclude from the paywall. As shown below:

Also from the settings module, you can select the number of words in the article text to show before printing the paywall box.

Finally, you can enable free reading of the first articles, specifying the number of the free articles per day.
